Tignes is undoubtably the best linked ski area in Europe. You can ski or board all day from lift to lift without stopping, and cover a lot of miles without queues. Some great circuits to follow: Le Fornet or the glacier and lunch in les Breviers. High altitude means you can always find powder throughout the season. Suits more advanced skiers but there is plenty of motorway skiing for the novice above Marmottes bar and up on the Grand pre. Some friendly bars around Le Lac and some lively nightlife if you want it....Thumbs up to Tignes...

Tignes is a boarders paradise. Great park and loads of variety. Unless you are loaded get an appartment and eat in. Lunch for two will cost 50 euros if you have anything nice but the restaurants are low grade on the mountains. The apres-ski is good and the sushi take away is also worth a go. Overall, just awesome boarding. Going to Tignes again.

I have skied in Tignes for two years running and as a ski resort it is definitely my favourite. . I stayed in Val Claret which is an ideal location for exploring the area, and found the variety and snow quality to be first rate. I would have to say the skiing is far better than in Val Thorens as the final runs into VT are quite average and very busy. People often mention crowding but I only experienced this in two locations, one being the final cable car up to the top of the Grande Motte and two when trying to get back from Val before closing time, otherwise we had no problems in either January or February, it is so big and they are improving the lifts all the time. In terms of nightlife, Tignes is okay, very Dutch and Belgian based so be prepared for some Europop and poor dancing but a laugh all the same!

Skiresort profile

In the Tarentaise, Tignes shares the Espace Killy with neighbouring Val d'Isère. This area is justly known as the "most beautiful skiing area in the world". The area marked off with banners and the off-piste areas are immense and of a rare quality. The cosmopolitan clientele (50% foreigners) ski all 4 seasons. The equipment, including the snowpark (2.5 km long), is on par with the area. But Tignes remains on a human scale. There are five free ski lifts for beginners. There is a special rate and a ski lift reserved for the half pipe. No matter where they are staying, all skiers can ski from the front door to all of the ski runs. However, although a real-estate refurbishing program was begun in 1996, the resort still lacks charm.
